We are a group of dedicated and committed women, approximately 180 strong, who volunteer more than 18,000 hours of service annually to our community. The May Court Club of Ottawa has a long history of community service and is the sustaining benefactor of the May Court Hospice. We also enjoy a rewarding social component.  Our motto is “Enriching the lives of others as well as our own”.  If you would like an idea of some of the activities of our Club, have a look at the various pages of this website. The rich history of the Club is highlighted on the Our History page under About Us at Our History.

About becoming a May Court Member

What is the May Court Club today and how do its members serve the people of Ottawa?  The Club works to attract women of all ages, interests and abilities. Whereas many of the activities have changed over the years, the commitment to serve has not changed.  Please consider joining us in participating in some of the following worthwhile volunteer areas:

  1. The May Court Bargain Box as a clerk or cashier.
  2. The May Court Hospice, as a receptionist or, with training in non-COVID-19 times, as a counsellor.
  3. The Aberdeen Artisans Committee, a dynamic arts and crafts group that raises considerable money each year through sales of their goods at craft fairs and car boot sales.
  4. The May Court Charitable Giving Committee that oversees distribution of the grants budget to small charities in the Ottawa environs, such as Children At Risk, Ottawa, Families Matter Cooperative Inc., and the Christie Lake Camp for Kids.
  5. The May Court Scholarship Program that awards May Court Centennial Scholarships to two qualified nurses entering the first or second year of a Nurse Practitioner Master’s program at an approved Ontario University, and the Susan Anderson Memorial Scholarship offered yearly to a qualified student in the Masters of Information Studies at the University of Ottawa, the Masters of Information at the University of Toronto or the Masters of Library and Information Science at Western University.
  6. The May Court After 5s Committee that operates to provide opportunities to volunteer and socialize outside office hours.

Equally important, members are asked to support the Club through:

  1. serving on the Board;
  2. chairing or serving on one of the numerous Committees not identified above.
  3. chairing or participating in a May Court fundraising event.

Please consider joining the May Court Cub in helping to make Ottawa a better place to live. Membership offers many opportunities for rewarding service as well as stimulating social events.

Volunteer Hour Requirements:

Active members have a goal of giving a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service per year – really just an hour a week!. There are many ways to meet this goal.

Membership Fees:

There is an annual membership fee, reviewed every two years. The current fee (for 2022) is $125 ($30 for out-of-town) but our benefits are priceless. Additional optional costs may be incurred for Club activities such as luncheons and tickets to events.

Process:

Upon completion and submission of the application below, the Membership Services Committee will interview you to review your application, discuss the Club and its expectations, and to answer any questions you may have.
By applying for membership to the May Court Club of Ottawa, you have agreed that the information you have provided may be shared with other May Court members.
If you are interested in finding out more, please contact the Members Services Committee at [email protected], or by telephone at (613) 733-4681.
